Engineering and Technical Consultancy

Join one of our teams and you’ll enjoy the scope to deepen your knowledge and build your reputation as a thought leader. You’ll be working with customers around the world, gaining exposure to a huge variety of vehicles, approaches and roles. You might be contributing to a standards working group, influencing our technical direction, delivering training, or engineering innovative customer solutions. And, with such a variety of opportunities, you’ll always be learning, developing and growing to create safer, cleaner, smarter journeys.

Your potential career path

Engineering

At every stage of your career, we’ll give you further opportunities to build your skills and continually develop your technical and commercial knowledge. You’ll be exposed to different client projects. You’ll work with experts from across the HORIBA MIRA business. And you’ll have the chance to sit on industry work groups and attend industry seminars. And if you want to move into people management at Principal Engineer level, you’ll have access to a full suite of leadership training courses.

Principal Engineer

As a principal engineer, you’ll have similar technical expertise and knowledge to a consultant. But with a focus on leadership and operational performance. So, you’ll lead local delivery teams. Manage facility operations. And oversee the technical aspects of engineering delivery. All for a range of customers, working in the UK and overseas.

Senior Engineer

Our senior engineers have extensive engineering expertise in a specific technical area. You’ll be working closely with customers on a range of complex projects. So, you’ll be involved from the first enquiry, through setting out project specifications and scope, to successful delivery. The scale and scope of these projects means you may sometimes need to work overseas.

Project Engineer

As an experienced engineer in a particular technical field, you’ll lead a variety of small customer projects. That means leading and motivating project teams. Following established processes. Managing budgets. And working closely with customers to ensure successful delivery – sometimes at overseas sites.

Graduate Engineer

As a graduate engineer, you might take a specific role in one of our teams. You may join a capability group, such as functional safety or cyber security, and work in different teams to expand your knowledge and skills. Or you could rotate through a variety of teams, developing your broad engineering skills before joining a specific team.

Senior/Engineering Technician

As a senior or Engineering technician you would be involved in a variety of exciting projects, whether supporting engineering development or working within one of our test facilities. In these roles you will often also have responsibility for a work area, technical application or have specific deep technical knowledge in a particular field. Engineering Technicians may also lead technical projects. You will be working closely with colleagues and customers alike and this may involve some UK or Global travel.

Technician

Whether you’re a test or development technician, you’ll contribute to a variety of customer projects. That means you’ll need to combine technical skills and expertise with the ability to work in a team, sometimes alongside customer engineers.

Chief Engineer

You’ll be a recognised technical expert, with a wide-ranging engineering background in civilian or defence vehicles, or both. Including deep technical knowledge in a particular field, or experience of delivering multiple vehicle capabilities. At the same time, you’ll have the character to work at a senior technical level with customers, government stakeholders and technical bodies, both in the UK and overseas.

Senior Consultant/Consultant

Our consultants are recognised experts in their specific technical fields. Playing a key role in international standards and technical bodies. And presenting papers at technical conferences. So, you’ll use your highly technical expertise to work with customers in the UK and abroad on a variety of projects. That means defining work activity. Overseeing technical governance. And leading technology roadmaps and research activities.

Muhammed Jeeva

Graduate Cybersecurity Engineer

I joined HORIBA MIRA because of my love for cars and computers, but I’ve been able to bring more of my hobbies outside of work into my job, such as using drones, coding, CAD and 3D printing. Also, the cyber security area of the industry is very new, and it's really exciting to be involved in its development – there’s never a dull moment.
