The Engineering and Manufacturing Awards celebrate the individuals, teams, companies and projects at the forefront of UK engineering, championing the role that engineers are playing in addressing many of the challenges faced by today’s society.

The ‘Engineering Consultancy’ award, underscores HORIBA MIRA’s expertise in providing world-class engineering solutions to clients across the globe. Additionally, the ‘Digital Innovation’ award celebrates demonstrable and outstanding examples of the application of digital technologies. HORIBA MIRA was awarded for its work on Project ViVID (Virtual Vehicle Integration and Development) - a collaboration between HORIBA MIRA, Ford and Loughborough University - to develop new digital engineering tools to reduce the reliance on serial engineering and physical prototypes. HORIBA MIRA’s contribution to the project was the development of co-simulation technologies that effectively remove the vehicle development phase that traditionally sits between concept architecture and product verification by replacing it with a digital engineering approach, saving millions on a typical vehicle development programme.

Furthermore, HORIBA MIRA was highly commended in the ‘R&D Project’ category, an award highlighting the most exciting research and development taking place in the UK. HORIBA MIRA was highly commended for its remarkable work on Project Theseus – an R&D project focused on the feasibility of automating supplies to soldiers. The project looked to determine which tasks in the ‘last mile’ of the battlefield can be automated, such as the use of self-driving air or ground platforms to deliver combat supplies, providing innovative solutions to the British Army.
